BCV's team hopes you all had a lovely and peaceful break over the winter holidays. We all did and are back to our monthly breakfast meeting for September. I am sure a lot of news to catch up. Ask around for advice on childcare in the area, schools, francophone nannies etc...

Remember each first Sunday of each month except in August.

1./ FETE DES PERES 4 September 10am
As it is la Fete des Peres on Sunday 4th September, we would welcome all mum's input to help the children to make some cards for their dads.
Please bring smiles, ideas, suggestions, guitar, books to read together to the children, "stuffs"...which can be useful on the day or our mediatheque!

Sunday 4th September 10am -12. Participation is still the same: 5$ per family (coffee, croissants, pastries etc...) If you wish to stay over, we can all havea picnic in our fenced parc. BYO please.

3./ New BCV Commitee for 2006
Please let Nevenka, Emmanuelle and myself know if you wish to be a member of our commitee for next year. We welcome everyone who wishes to maintain French language alive for our children (most of your children are born here from binational parents) through informal meetings on Sundays. The team's own children attend schools, and it would be good to have new parents with younger children to keep it up!

4./ Killarney Height French English Public Bilingual School in Sydney

Les préparatifs pour la rentrée scolaire de janvier 2006 à Killarney Heights avancent à grands pas!!

L'école organise trois matinées d'orientation pour les enfants qui rejoindront les classes de Kindergarten. Il s'agit d'une présentation de l'école aux enfants et aux parents. Les enfants seront accueillis dans les classes, participeront à certaines activités et rencontreront les enfants et enseignants. Les dates sont les suivantes:

- Mercredi 31/08 de 10h00 à 12h00

- Jeudi 08/09 de 10h00 à 12h00

- Mardi 20/09 de 10h00 à 12h00

- Remplir le document d'inscription à l'école disponible à l'école lors de votre visite

- Remplir le document d'inscription des francophones au programme bilingue et régler un droit d'inscription de $50 par enfant

- Devenir membre de l'association FANS et régler la cotisation annuelle familiale de $50

Nous vous remercions de bien vouloir effectuer ces démarches pour le 20 octobre prochain au plus tard afin de nous permettre d'anticiper harmonieusement la rentrée scolaire de vos enfants.

Is anyone interested in joining my 2 daughters for some CNED coaching, so they are aware that other children can do it too in addition to the Australian curriculum? We will do French and Maths (cours a la carte) for CP and CE1. Each subject costs Euros 175 per year (Cd rom, cds, teacher manual, exercice book, reading books...), additional subject 70 Euros. NEW ! Les Petits Mousses Playgroup 27 May :

Please note our NEW Baby Toddler session "les Petits mousses" starting THIS Friday 27 May from 9.45am. Time might change depending on your request. Do come and ask Helen our day leader how to plan Talks around all themes on baby-toddler: nutrition, sleeping etc...She works in the medical sector is super enthusiast to share her views with francophone mums and dads! Help her!

It will be a "normal" playgroup which will focus on preferably regular attendance so you can all know each other better, familiar faces for baby and toddlers. Helen will let you know what to bring (CD, books, fruits etc). I am sure yo have ideas to share. It would be a good idea to bring your child's own toy and blanket-mat to take home afterwards. Just let her know what you would need for your French baby resources mediatheque.

It will be a regular bimonthly session: 2nd and 4th Friday of each month from 945am at Children's Resources Centre Enmore Park Enmore. Spread the word around you. A neutral centre, with access to the park, easy parking, stroller access etc ...

In addition to the Petits Mousses, BCV will still hold its regular monthly coffee-tea croissants break on the first Sunday of each month.

BCV 5 June from 10am. same place. Remember to bring back your books etc on loans.. same participation 5$ per family. Serve yourself forcoffee, tea, milk and croissants for children.

Donations of Books, music Cds, cd roms etc...
As most of you are aware, our mediatheque relies mostly on donations. If your child has grown up and does not use his/her books in French, do remember BCV so we can put them on loans to other families who have the approapriate age for the donated books... same for any toys. We secure our cultural belongings in our metallic cabinet!
Please spread the words around especially when people are moving!

Bonjour chez Vous Playgroup is going to be 3 years old in May! We would like to meet up (of course) in a child friendly environment.
We love Featherdale Wildlife Park, where we can touch and cuddle koalas, roos etc?? Bring your cameras! I am sure your children would love to touch roos!

As BCV is a registered group with the NSW Playgroup Association we have an astronomic group discount: 130$ for a minimum of 16 people (including children): $8.10pp. If there are more than 16 people, it is still the same price of 130$ for our group! for 30 people, $4.33 pp!!
Bring your parents, friends etc...
The normal price is usually 45$ per family (2 parents and 2 children). Please take the right change and cheques...

BIG announcement: BCV is going to hold regular bimonthly babby-toddler sessions at Enmore Centre (same palce).

Thanks to Helen who is going to be the day leader. It will be on Friday morning from 930am till 11am probably She has suggested to organise interesting talks concerning baby sleeps, nutrition, playtime...she is a doctor so the Friday session will be perfet for all mums and dads who wish to meet regularly in French and discuss various issues about young children! Our bilingual exposed baby can socialise in a baby friendly environment.
Bring your own blanket, fruits to share, music tape, music CD, ideas for baby songs in french. We have a coffee machine, tea.

I am sure you can share your enthusiasm and energy with Helen, and meet up with her at our picnic with the koalas! She might need soem help too!

Last day to wish you all a happy new year. We hope you all had a lovely break witrh your family.

Our next morning tea together is on THIS Sunday 6 February from 10am till 1130am (remember 1st Sunday of each month) exceptionnaly at Tempe Recreation Reserve, Holbeach Avenue Tempe. (The playground is fully fenced. Ideal for babies till 10 yo children. Flying foxe activities etc...There are plenty of place for biking as well and a few covered huts for picnics if you wish to stay after our morning tea.)

(The centre where we gather usually is being renovated by the Council so we should be back there in March. Sorry for the inconvenience if you have books, cd, magazine on loan from our mediatheque)

We will have only croissants. You are welcome to bring your own coffee etc, as we won't be able to do so as it is in the park. Participation is 5$ per family. Everyone is welcome (grandparents etc etc..). Meet us inside the playground...spot teh box of mini croissants or pastries.

Anyone is welcome to read their favorite story in French!

3./ BCV Noel 5 12 2004
BCV Family Xmas: BYO PICNIC SUNDAY 5th December at NOON Sharp at the car park by the grass towards the beach (spot bleu blanc rouge stuffs), near the walking track. Note there is no mobile coverage. so you need to be on time otherwise we see you down the beach.

We all agreed last meeting to have our yearly Xmas gathering in the Royal National Park at Watamolla.

Once arrived at Audley, it is 10kms to reach Watamolla (please see attached)

Ask for a map once you arrive at the main entry from the ranger. Note there is no mobile coverage.
From Watamolla car park you need to walk till the lagoon (around 10 minutes) so it is better to all meet up at the car park and being prepared about backpacks etc..

BYO picnic, rugs, swim gear, hats, suncream, floatties, games, ball etc...as your normal week-end outing
The lagoon is very shallow. However please remember you are responsible for your own children. The other side is teh open ocean.


Please bring a dessert to share with an Xmas decoration (star, santa etc etc..).
BCV's children will receive from Santa some French magazines offered by Bayard Presse and a few goodies from BCV.

Face à la situation d’urgence que nos compatriotes français connaissent en Côte d’Ivoire, le ministère français des Affaires étrangères a mis samedi soir à la disposition du public le numéro de téléphone d'une cellule de crise qui donne des renseignements sur la situation des ressortissants français en Côte d'Ivoire. Peut-être certains d’entre-nous, ayant là-bas des membres de la famille ou des amis, seront ainsi rassurés de pouvoir se tenir informés.

Je profite de cette information pour rappeler que l’ADFE-Australie s’est associée à l’initiative de Reporters Sans Frontières visant à apporter un soutien aux deux journalistes français retenus en Irak, ainsi qu’à leur chauffeur syrien (voir sur le site de l’ADFE-Australie). Action symbolique certes, mais qui témoigne, dans des situations douloureuses, de la solidarité nationale.

The participation per person is $15 to be paid and received before 3 December (including french food, wines, juice, kid's show, circus tbc...). On the day it will be 20$ per person. Suggestions for improvement
We welcome all kind of suggestions as it is a parent-run association. If you wish us to organise a day out with children somewhere you know, or a child friendly restaurant, or if you wish to introduce another child friendly centre where we can store our mediatheque, free of charge, please let us know.
If you wish to organise activities for children in French, take initiatives for reading stories, mimes, artcraft (we have stuff!) etc...please feel free to do so!
The centre is cleaned by parents who take turns in cleaning sponstaneously the centre. No one will ask you to do anything but it is nice if we all participate.

Ads are free on the enewsletter which is monthly posted on the website. We do believe that it is important to have information exchange flowing free of charge.

Every first Sunday of each month at Enmore Park, Children's Resource Centre 10am till 12. Same participation: 5$ per family including coffee, milk, juice, croissants. Please write your name down in the Blue Book and the 5$ in the little Eiffel Tower. BCV relies on all kind of donations. There are no membership fees except that you need to be a member of the NSW Playgroup Association 24$ insurance a year which allows you to attend all playgroups in NSW. We are a not profit association. We rely on volunteers to make it work.

Same participation: 5$ per family for coffee, tea etc Please do remember to pay your 2004 NSW Playgroup Association as we have access to the centre on the condition that every attendee is insured (this is covered by your NSWPA membership). Please see Priscilla for all payments, unless you have already paid your membership at another playgroup in which case you will already be covered.

Please remember we are a volunteer parent-run non-profit association, so everyone needs to help out to clean the centre, put away the toys, mop the floor, vaccum the rooms etc. We have to leave the place tidy for the next group to use the centre.

Cake "competition" with children 2nd May 2004
Programme: Cake competition as it is BCV's 2nd birthday! You will need to sample all the cakes that you might like to bring over to share. Of course everyone wins by eating them all!

Recipe of crepe

Recette classique.

Prenez un grand saladier.

Mélangez 250 grammes de farine avec 1 cuillère à soupe de sucre semoule, 2 sachets de sucre vanillé et 1 pincée de sel et ménager un puits au centre.

Versez doucement 1/4 litre de lait à température de la pièce.

Battez vigoureusement 3 gros oeufs entiers dans un bol.

Une fois la pâte homogène, incorporez les vigoureusement, puis 3 cuillères à soupe d'huile de tournesol, ou mieux de beurre fondu.

Allongez à volonté, avec 1/4 de lait tout au plus.

Laissez reposer 1 heure, puis ajoutez un petit verre de bière et éventuellement une cuillère à soupe de rhum ou de fleurs d'oranger.

Pour faire des crêpes salées pour le repas, il suffit de reprendre la même recette et de supprimer le sucre.

Pour faire des crêpes ultra légères, supprimez le lait, remplacez-le par l'eau tiède ou de mélanger un verre de lait et un verre

 

Origine et symbolique de la crêpe :

Sa forme et sa couleur évoque le Soleil enfin de retour après la nuit de l'hiver.

On dit aussi que le pape Gélase 1er, qui christianisa la Chandeleur, réconfortait les pèlerins arrivés à Rome avec des crêpes.

Enfin la crêpe utilise le froment en quantité et les moissons ne sont alors plus très loin.

Elle protège en outre la récolte de la moisissure et le foyer du malheur.

De nombreux proverbes en témoignent : "Si point ne veut de blé charbonneux, mange des crêpes à la Chandeleur"

Il faut faire sauter les crêpes avec une pièce dans la main afin de s'assurer prospérité toute l'année.

Le tout aux lueurs des chandelles, qui par ailleurs éviteront à la cuisine de rester enfumée pendant 3 jours !

Celui qui retourne sa crêpe avec adresse, qui ne laisse pas tomber à terre, celui-là aura du bonheur jusqu’à la Chandeleur prochaine.

On fait sauter la première crêpe sur l'armoire, car elle ne moisira jamais. Cela peut sembler curieux mais il parrait que ca préserve de la moisissure l'ensemble de la future récolte !

En ville on se limitera à faire sauter les crêpes avec adresse avec une pièce dans la main, sauf si le lancer de crêpes sur armoire vous amuse.

We are very happy to see that our new committee is composed of binational local families from Inner West (Nevenka and My), the West (Didier and Sue) and the South (Priscilla). BCV is very happy to feel this unity among our families wherever our residency.

MAROUBRA FRENCH SCHOOL BOOK FAIR 1-5 December
There is a Book Fair from 1st till 5th December at Maroubra French School 758 Anzac Parade Ph 9344 8692 www.condorcet.com.au at the Primary School. They need volunteers for greeting customers, helping customers about where to find books, cashier helper etc.. If you would like to help and donate your time please call Bernd on 9344 8692 or contact him at languages@condorcet.com.au A % of the sale during the Book Fair will be donated to the School library.

As you might know, the French School is building a new preschool which is ready to welcome new little preschoolers. Please contact the school if you are interested in enrolling your children there as there IS NO MORE WAITING LIST from January 2004. The school 's distribution is 80% local families versus 20% expatriates families. I am also happy to be your contact person if you wish to have a view from a parent who travel 10 kms to Maroubra twice a day for her 2 daughters: 0416177112. I am also happy to share your views, issues as I am also on the Management Board of the school.

UFE CHRISTMAS at HILTON
UFE who helped BCV a lot at its early stage is organising their yearly Xmas gathering on Sunday 30th November at noon at Hilton Sydney Airport. Seafood platter, French specialities, salads, cheeses and buche de Noel.

Pacific Opera is a unique initiative that provides promising opera singers the opportunity to learn and perform a full opera under the supervision of opera professionals. 2003 production was a successful Mozart's Magic Flute produced at the North Sydney Independent Theatre under the artistic direction of Opera Australia soprano and director Christine Douglas and the batton of Sydney Philharmonia Choir conductor Brett Weymark. 2004 will include a Gala concert in June as well as the production of Cosi fan tutte in October. MID WEEK SESSIONS
We are still looking for volunteer mother to run a regular bb-toddler mid week session (weekly or fortnightly). If you would like to organise this let me know so we can sort out the insurance issue, and the hiring of the centre etc...

FRENCH LESSONS
Sylvie Pagna is keen on teaching to children at her home. She has been teaching French classes at Newtown for Newtown BCV Friday group for the last semester. We can not continue at the primary school anymore as the school is booked out. Please contact her directly so groups can be organised consequently. Her home phone number is 9573 0016.

COMMUNITY GRANTS PRAGRAMME APPLICATION
Marrickville Council where we have our Centre for our meetings, offers grants till $5 000 for any non profit groups which have sufficient cultural grounds to apply. BCV meets all the criteria for the application. The deadline is 15th October. If you would like to volunteer to help to apply for BCV please let me know. I will forward you the application.

VIDEOS
I had arranged to duplicate and transfer some new French speaking videos for our mediatheque (Mimi cracra, Caroline, Asterix etc...). It is $4 per video for one month. The refundable bond is $30. Late fees are payable on return. Do remember there is a lot of time spent behind this, and we would appreciate your help in any kind.

Gaston Desiere Productions is helping BCV through duplicatiung and transferring videos at a very friendly price. If you need any transfer etc...please contact him directly on 9559 5225.

We need volunteer to keep our non profit loan system possible. There is a folder already organised.Please let me know if you would like to help so our children can have access to a mini French culture!

ENFANT MAGAZINE/BAYARD PRESSE
We have subscribed to Enfant Magazine. They are new to our resources. If you wish to subscribe to magazines from Bayard Presse, please contact Anne or meet her at our next meeting as she will display samples of the magazines. I have included a price list of the educational magazines for your infirmation.

ADDITIONAL SESSIONS
I have arranged with the Council to have a copy of the keys of the centre. Anyone who would like to see Bonjour Chez Vous meet more often, are very welcome. We have insurance cover for the 3rd Sudnay of each month for instance. If you wish to RUN A REGULAR baby toddler session duriung the week, so the children can be more immersed in the French speaking environment, please let me know.

ALLIANCE FRANCAISE'S BOOK DONATION
Thanks to the Alliance Francaise of Sydney, we have gathered more Frenchy posters as well as a box of books for children. BCV needs someone to pick up the books for our mediatheque. Does anyone work in the city and is motorised? Please let me know so I can arrange PICK UP for our next session.

PERLEE/FRENCH ARTIST
La Perlee would like to present its artcraft jewels for children at our next session. This includes rings, bracelets, necklaces. All child proof as there are silver coated wire with beads. Her prices are wholesale price, and each of her pieces are unique creation. You can find her jewels in groovy boutiques! She sold and designed jewels for Von Troska.
